Framing Specification Checklist
Studio Standards for Moore Art by Lucy
To the Professional Framer: The enclosed artwork is a fine art acquisition produced to archival museum standards. To ensure the long-term preservation of the media and the integrity of the artist’s vision, please adhere to the following technical specifications.
Handling Instructions: Do not handle the original artwork or print with your bare hands to prevent transfer of oils onto the surface.
Please allow to acclimate to the temperature and humidity of the environment for a minimum of 2 hours before framing.
Please use cotton gloves
Only handle the edges of the panel or print.
1. Substrate Identification
Original Studies: Professional Oil on hand-prepared hardwood panel. The support has been isolated on all sides with pH-neutral polymers to prevent Support Induced Discoloration (SID).
Signature Editions and Atmospheric Editions: Archival Giclée Pigment Print on 100% Cotton Rag fine art paper.
2. Mounting & Hinges
For Panels: Use offset clips or Z-brackets to secure the work into the frame.
Constraint: Do not use permanent adhesives, tapes, or pressure-fit methods on the back of the panel.
For Signature Editions and Atmospheric Editions: Use archival hinge-mounting with acid-free linen or rice paper tape.
Constraint: Do not "dry mount" or use heat-activated adhesives.
3. Matting & Spacing
Mat Quality: Use only 100% Cotton Rag or Alpha-Cellulose mats (e.g., Bainbridge Artcare or Crescent RagMat).
Liner: Use only a Linen Liner for Original oil panels.
Airflow (Critical): If matting or glazing an oil painting, archival spacers must be used.
Constraint: There must be a minimum 1/8" air gap between the painted surface and the mat or glass. The mat must never rest directly on the oil film.
4. Glazing Specifications
Recommended: Museum Glass® (99% UV protection, <1% reflection).
Varnish Note: This work is finished with a conservation-grade, breathable varnish. While it is stable, it remains chemically sensitive. Do not clean the artwork surface with glass cleaner or solvents.
5. Fitting & Sealing
Backing: Use an archival, acid-free backing board (e.g., Coroplast or archival foam core) to protect the rear of the work from environmental fluctuations.
Dust Cover: Seal the back of the frame with a professional dust cover to prevent debris and insects from entering the assembly.
