Commissioning a Work of Art

Commissioning Process

There are 2 ways to commission me.

  • Easiest and preferred method: Artistree (explanation / process provided at link), please use the right column as a guide when providing your details about your request.

  • If Artistree is unavailable: This website (explanation and process provided below)

Website Process:

  • In order to commission a work, please feel free to reach out to me via the form at the bottom of the page (preferred) or email. If sending email - please provide the needed information noted under “Information to request a commission” (to the right on a web browser, below on mobile).

  • I will contact you back with any questions needed to clarify your request, or if everything is there I will give you a quote for the price (including any needed shipping).

  • If you approve the quote, please sign the document and send it back to me. I will countersign and send you a fully executed contract back.

  • At that point based on what you requested, I will begin working on your project and provide you updates along the way based on the schedule laid out and approved.

If there is ever a problem with the commission or payment of any kind, please reach out to me as soon as the issue is brought to your attention. The quicker you advise me of the problem, the better and easier we can come to an appropriate resolution.

Please note: Based on your answers to the request details, I may have some clarifying questions or I may be able to immediately quote you a price.

Make sure that the email you provide for communication is one you monitor regularly and keep an eye out for a response from me - usually within 1 business day. My response email will be from mooreartbylucy@gmail.com.

Commission FAQ

  • What is your current turnaround time?

    • This depends on factors in your specific request. However, at the top of the page I provide a statement about what time frame I am booking commissions into. This is when I will start the commission. How detailed, the medium, and other factors will affect how long the commission will take.

      • For example - oils can require longer a longer process than watercolors to achieve a completed / shipped piece due to curing time vs drying time. I can not ship an oil painting before it is cured to prevent damage to the piece.

    • Please be sure to provide your deadline so I can make sure the medium and/or my schedule can accommodate your needs before we begin. If there is any issue with these aligning, I will communicate with you in the quoting process and we can find a solution that will work.

  • Do you provide sketches for final approval?

    • Yes! I provide a preliminary sketch for your approval.

    • This is the stage where we can make any major adjustments to the composition or details.

  • What if I need the art faster than your usual time?

    • Rush orders may be available for an additional fee, depending on my current client schedule. When I am reviewing your request, I will see what my schedule will allow. If it is possible, I will advise you of the cost when I respond with my quote or follow-up questions.

    • Please mark 'RUSH' in the subject line of your inquiry.

  • Can you work from multiple reference photos?

    • Absolutely. I can combine elements from different photos. Just be sure to describe exactly what you'd like to include from each one.

  • How do physical vs. digital commissions work?

    • For Digital Commissions, you will receive a file based on your requested file type and use case paid for (whether you paid for printing rights, licensing, etc.)

    • For Physical Art (watercolor, oil, etc.), I will provide a quote with a shipping estimate calculated in at the beginning to allow for the price to be paid on the approved schedule.

      • I will provide you a receipt of the final shipping price when it is finalized and confirmed.

      • Once the piece is completed and ready for its new home I will get a final shipping quote. This may require a small adjustment to the final price to facilitate the shipment of the final product.

        • If the quoted shipping estimate is higher than the final cost - I will deduct the difference from the final payment.

          • If the difference is more than the final payment I will issue a refund for any remaining difference and ship the piece.

        • If the quoted shipping estimate is lower than the final cost - I will add the additional amount to the final payment. This will mean the final amount may be higher than the other pre-calculated payments.

          • This usually does not add a large amount to the cost as I try my best to be as accurate as possible with my shipping quotes, but sometimes shipping rates change during the process of creating a piece which is something outside of my control.

  • When will I hear back from you?

    • I personally review all requests daily. I make every attempt to respond within 24 hours of receiving your request, however since I work a day job to support my art, you can typically expect a response between 7 pm and 9 pm CST.

      • Please be sure to provide an email that you check regularly and whitelist mooreartbylucy@gmail.com to prevent any undue delays such as my email responses going to spam/junk.

  • What is your shipping policy for traditional artwork?

    • Shipping Timelines: Physical artworks are typically packaged and shipped within 3–5 business days of final payment. Because I work a split-shift schedule, I visit the post office on [Tuesday/Saturday] mornings.

    • Tracking: You will receive a tracking number via email as soon as your art is on its way.

    • International Shipping: I do ship internationally! Please note that any customs fees or import taxes are the responsibility of the buyer.

    • Packaging: All original works are shipped flat or in heavy-duty tubes with moisture protection to ensure they arrive in gallery condition.

  • What is your returns and cancellation policy?

    • Custom Commissions: Due to the personalized nature of commission work, these items are non-refundable once the final painting process has begun.

    • The "Sketch Approval" Guarantee: I provide a preliminary sketch for every commission. If you are not satisfied at the sketch stage, we can cancel the project for a partial refund of your deposit (minus a small design fee for the time already spent).

    • Damaged Goods: If your art arrives damaged due to shipping, please contact me within 48 hours with photos of the packaging and the artwork so I can file a claim and make it right for you.
